Your paper starting point
Paper-size-specific measurement and margin check. All sheets have a matching A4 and Letter PDF. No account or email needed.
Paper-size-specific measurement and margin check
Print the matching paper size at 100%. Adults can adapt the activity and help with cutting. Use permissions.
A reliable first print
- Choose the matching file. A4 is 210 × 297 mm; US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. They have different proportions. The download labels name the PDF’s page size.
- Open the downloaded PDF. Print the file itself rather than a screenshot or a whole webpage containing a preview.
- Check the selected paper. The paper setting should match both the file and the sheet loaded in the printer.
- Use one page per sheet. Choose portrait orientation for these resources. Turn off browser headers and footers if they appear.
- Print one copy first. Check the title, lowest line, cut edges and attribution before sending a batch.
The downloadable PDFs have safe margins built into the composition. You do not need borderless mode. If the whole composition still clips at Actual size on a particular printer, Fit can be a practical coloring-sheet workaround, but it changes dimensions.
Actual size and Fit do different jobs
Adobe’s print-sizing documentation distinguishes unscaled printing from resizing to the printable area. Actual size leaves the PDF scale unchanged; material outside the paper can be cropped. Fit may shrink or enlarge it. Menu wording varies by PDF viewer and operating system.
| Your task | A sensible starting setting |
|---|---|
| Color a picture | Matching paper, Actual size; Fit if a test shows clipping |
| Make matching cards and backs | Same file paper and same scale for both sheets |
| Check a marked length | Matching calibration PDF, Actual size / 100%, one page per sheet |
| Print several PDF pages | Keep one resource page per physical sheet unless you intentionally want smaller pieces |
Use the measurement sheet
The test page has a line marked 50 mm between its end ticks and a square marked 1 inch on each side. Print the matching A4 or Letter PDF at Actual size and measure with a ruler. Both versions use native physical dimensions for these marks. The SVG preview is not the measurement reference.
If the marks are clearly too short or long, check scaling, paper choice and pages-per-sheet before printing a kit. A small ruler-reading or printer variation is possible; this is a practical check, not a precision instrument. The large rounded frame also helps you notice if an edge was cut off.
Troubleshoot the result you actually see
- Bottom missing: verify the paper size and orientation. Avoid printing a browser preview of the SVG as though it were the paper-specific PDF.
- Everything tiny: check that multiple pages per sheet, booklet mode or a custom low percentage is not selected.
- Very faint lines: try normal quality instead of draft and check the printer’s ink or toner status. Our art uses outlined shapes that do not require color.
- Card pictures visible from behind: use opaque backing or the matching game’s identical card backs. Printer scaling will not fix paper transparency.
- Wet color transfers: let the sheet dry completely, or use pencils/crayons for a bookmark that will touch book pages.
Before printing a group pack
Count outputs rather than just people: one bookmark sheet makes three bookmarks, while one matching sheet makes a complete 12-card game. A puppet sheet makes one puppet. Keep an adult answer sheet for the maze separate from the puzzle copies. For paper type and loading limits, follow the actual printer’s manual.
